Acadia National Park, Maine

Granite peaks meeting the Atlantic, with rocky coastline and pine forest on Mount Desert Island.

Acadia is where the Appalachian Mountains meet the Atlantic β€” granite peaks rising directly out of the ocean, with pine forest, freshwater ponds, and rocky shoreline packed into a single island. It's the only national park on this list where the drive itself, the Park Loop Road, hugs the coast closely enough to feel the spray from the waves. If you know of an RV-friendly stop near Acadia National Park that isn't listed here, please submit it and we'll get it added to the directory.

Planning tip

Roads on Mount Desert Island are narrow and can get congested with summer traffic. Many RVers park at the campground and use the free Island Explorer shuttle to reach Bar Harbor and trailheads without maneuvering a big rig through town.
