Glacier earns the nickname "Crown of the Continent" honestly — jagged peaks, turquoise glacial lakes, and valleys carved straight down to bedrock. It's one of the last places in the Lower 48 with a healthy population of grizzly bears, and the drive across Going-to-the-Sun Road is reason enough to visit on its own. The park's short season means summer crowds, but also the payoff of wildflower meadows and waterfalls running at full force. 🚗 Going-to-the-Sun Road

A 50-mile alpine crossing over Logan Pass with some of the most dramatic mountain views reachable by car anywhere in the country.

🏞️ Lake McDonald

The park's largest lake, with colorful stones visible through impossibly clear water.

🥾 Many Glacier & Grinnell Glacier Trail

The park's most scenic corner, with a hike leading past turquoise lakes up to a still-active glacier.

🏘️ Apgar Village

A small lakefront village at the west entrance with shops, boat rentals, and easy shoreline access.

📘 Good to Know

Planning tip

Vehicles over 21 feet long (or 8 feet wide, including mirrors) aren't permitted on Going-to-the-Sun Road between Avalanche Creek and Sun Point. Plan to leave larger rigs at camp and drive that stretch in a towed vehicle or take the park's free shuttle.

Best season to visit: Mid-June–September
