Yellowstone National Park, Wyoming

Geysers, hot springs, and some of the best roadside wildlife viewing in the country.

Yellowstone sits on top of one of the largest active volcanic systems on Earth, and it shows: geysers, boiling mud pots, and mineral hot springs are scattered across the park in colors that look almost artificial. It's also one of the best places in the country to see large wildlife from the road — bison herds, elk, and the occasional grizzly are routine sightings, not rare ones. 💦 Old Faithful

The park's most famous geyser, erupting roughly every 60–90 minutes with reliable enough timing to plan a viewing around.

🎨 Grand Prismatic Spring

The largest hot spring in the country, ringed in bands of orange and blue — best seen from the overlook trail above.

🏔️ Grand Canyon of the Yellowstone

A dramatic yellow-walled canyon with two waterfalls, viewable from rim trails on both sides.

🦬 Lamar Valley

Often called America's Serengeti — a wide valley known for wolf and bison sightings.

Planning tip

Book Fishing Bridge RV Park as far ahead as possible — it's the only full-hookup option inside the park and sells out for peak summer months well in advance. Soft-sided pop-ups and tent trailers aren't allowed there for bear-safety reasons.
