The short version

Cajun Country, or Acadiana, is the bayou region around Lafayette in south Louisiana. The draw is food, live music and the Atchafalaya Basin swamp, and it is easiest to reach from a base near Lafayette or Breaux Bridge. The Lafayette tourism office promotes Cajun and Creole food, Cajun and zydeco music and museums.

Lake Fausse Pointe State Park, near St. Martinville, has 46 sites with 30/50-amp power, water and sewer, and the longest vehicle visitors report is 42 ft. Palmetto Island State Park, near Abbeville, lists 95 premium RV sites with sewer, water and electric at $33 to $49.50 per night plus tax, and a $3-per-person admission.

Travel alert: Palmetto Island’s page says a bridge closure in Perry, Louisiana was scheduled to begin October 12, 2026, which requires an alternative route. The park provides a camper/RV route map and directions, so use it rather than a phone map.
