Important for RV and campervan travelers: most Hawaii state park campgrounds are tent-only — sleeping inside a vehicle in the parking lot is not permitted. Wai'ānapanapa State Park on Maui is the one state park exception, with a designated camper-van area. National park and county campgrounds are generally more RV-friendly for drive-up tent-and-vehicle camping, though none offer hookups. Always confirm current rules and reserve a permit before you go.
