What to See in New York
New York's RV appeal stretches from wild mountains to Atlantic beaches, with the Adirondacks anchoring the north — six million acres of forest, lakes, and peaks around Lake Placid make for classic paddling, hiking, and fall-foliage road trips. The Finger Lakes region to the west pairs scenic lake drives with one of the country's fastest-growing wine regions.
Niagara Falls remains the state's most famous stop, easily reached from Buffalo, while the Catskills offer a quieter mountain escape within a couple hours of New York City. Out on Long Island, the East End's Hamptons and North Fork wine country give way to beach camping near Montauk, and the Long Island Sound side offers calmer waters for families.
If your route runs through the Hudson Valley, look for stops at Olana and the historic estates along the river, plus easy access to Harriman State Park for hiking close to the city. New York's toll roads and bridges can add up on a long RV trip, so budget for E-ZPass or cash tolls along the Thruway.

New York RV Rental FAQ
Is New York State more than just New York City for RV trips?
Much more — most RV travel in New York happens well outside the city, in the Adirondacks, the Finger Lakes wine region, and near Niagara Falls. The five boroughs themselves aren't a practical or common RV destination.
When should I visit the Adirondacks by RV?
Summer for hiking and lake access, and early-to-mid October for fall foliage, which is a major draw. Winter access to many Adirondack campgrounds is limited.
Can I see Niagara Falls from the RV, or do I need to park and walk?
You'll want to park at a campground or lot and explore on foot or by trolley — the falls and surrounding parks aren't set up for driving directly along the viewpoints.
Are New York RV rentals concentrated near the city?
No — most listings are further north and west, closer to the regions RVers actually visit: the Capital District, the Adirondacks, western New York, and Long Island's own East End wine country.
